For this short essay, you have several choices as to the literary approach(es) and text(s) for your analysis. You will need to construct a two (2) pagepaper that fully supports your thesis. The thesis for this essay will vary according to the literary element/movement used, the text under review, and the examinatory purpose. This paper requires quotes from the text(s) under review. Follow MLA documentation for quote integration. Be sure to write two (2) complete pages or there will be a grade reduction. Finally, you must write on a text that we previously covered in the course. This is an assignment that will allow you to examine one of them more closely and in greater detail. Either extend on previous discussion boards or look at a previous course text in a new way.

1) Continuing your work from a previous discussion board, extend on your analysis of a literary element. You may reuse your discussion board post, but it must be revised to fit with the focus and organization of the essay.

3) Using the surface/depth or opposites analytical model, analyze any text we have covered in the course so far. You may focus on one text or compare/contrast texts for this prompt.

Essay Guidelines:

1. Be sure to write a literary introduction, which have a different focus than ENC 1101/1102 essays. A thesis appropriate for literary analysis is also required. A brief conclusion is also required.
2. Each body paragraph should have a strong topic sentence that outlines the claim or focus of the paragraph, a narrowing to the specific focus/issue of the paragraph, an illustration of the concept from the text (textual evidence/quotes in MLA documentation), and your analysis of how the quote explicates the concept or argument of the paragraph (FCEA). Remember not to rehash the plot excessively! Give only the supporting plot elements that are important (and specific) to your analysis. A good rule of thumb is no more than two sentences of plot summary per body paragraph (not including quotes). Quotes from the text(s) are required for this essay. An essay without textual quotes as evidence for your interpretation will not be graded.
3. This essay must be uploaded to Canvas as a .doc/.dox file.
