Nursing Pursuit Question
My inspiration to become a registered nurse comes from the passion that I have for nursing. I have always admired nursing and my admiration has made me passionate about nursing since my career is rewarding and has enabled me to make a difference in other people’s lives. The nursing career experience has given me an incredible privilege. Nursing is a career that has given me the motivation to do more since seeing the difference that I am making to the patients gives me satisfaction that is beyond measure. My passion for becoming a nurse began with my desire to help and serve people in need. When working as a missionary for a year, I saw so many people who needed medical help and that is where I felt a real calling that nursing was the path that I was called to take. I began working as a CNA and began taking care of the elderly. Working as a CNA is a humbling experience and also a job that I feel satisfies me since it involves being able to assist, help, and care for those in need. I had the opportunity to volunteer as a nurse practitioner, where I helped the patients to take physical exams and ensuring that they were healthy. I realized that I had to finally pursue a nursing program.
Another reason I feel so drawn to pursuing a career in nursing comes from the agreement that I made with my father to become a nurse. My father died due to gunshot wounds. While he was in the hospital, I became really afraid of hospitals but after taking different life decisions I feel I have come full circle and have come back to the realization that nursing is what I want to be pursued. I have done a lot of research and after considering some life circumstances of how I lost my father due to gunshot wounds, I feel more drawn to a career in the emergency department. I always wondered if my father had received better care or treatment if he would have survived, but I stopped wondering about the things that had passed and realized I could pursue a career where I can ensure the best care for the people who are in fatal situations and need critical care.
Some of my career goals include advancing my degree in nursing. Through the inspiration from career advisors and with a structured class schedule I will be able to further my career and my degree in nursing. I am also open to taking a management position in nursing, especially in the medical institutions that have not been properly structured. Being in a management position is one of the easiest ways of advancing my career in the nursing profession and that will expose me to new professional opportunities. I also aspire to become a specialist in nursing. Becoming a specialist is something that can be achieved by a nurse on more than one occasion. After choosing a specialty in nursing I will be able to demonstrate my natural aptitude and take the necessary training so that I can become an expert in that particular field of nursing. I also expire to obtain professional status certifications. Professional certification can be achieved multiple times and once I have the certifications such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses I will be in a position to take my career in a new direction.
2. My pursuit of becoming a nurse began about two years ago. It came when I was living in Spain as a missionary and it truly drove me to see what I felt about my passion. I have always had a love for people and a desire to serve, yet I didn’t know how or what I should do in life that would allow me to do so. I have been in school for years now and I had been switching my majors. After graduating from high school I went into college with the mindset of pursuing pre-pharmacy, but I was not doing so well and having so much going on in life, I lost a sense of direction until I found love for nutrition and fitness so I began pursuing kinesiology & health, but still, my heart wasn’t fully committed. Before my journey to Spain and taking up the missionary work, I changed my major again to religious studies. My early twenties were filled with so much soul searching, failed attempts, and failed pursuits due to a lack of clear direction. By that time, I had a couple of friends who were attending chamberlain who was telling me about their nursing experiences. They reminded me of my father’s dream and my childhood dream of becoming a nurse but I didn’t want to change my major anymore, so I continued with religious studies as I did online classes while in Spain. As I was traveling to see how much people were in need medically, I began to entertain the thought of changing my major. Working as a missionary gave me a clear vision of what I wanted to do. After coming back to the US, I talked to an advisor in chamberlain and she gave me hope and told me to take a couple of years so that I can build a good GPA. I went back to Spain and tried to take online classes while still doing missionary work but things did not go as planned due to lack of internet but I still felt drawn towards nursing. When I ended my missionary work and came back to the states, I started taking the necessary classes so that I could pursue nursing. I also began working as a CNA and working with the elderly. While working as a CNA I realized that I was finally going towards my calling. Despite the challenges that I faced, it was emotional for me to see people in pain and not being able to take care of themselves. I felt honored that I could take care of them. I would tell my patients that I was studying to become a registered nurse and time and time again I would hear patients and their family members tell me that I would make an amazing nurse, and though the job is difficult at times I always felt a sense of my internal glass being full leaving work. Through all this I’m truly motivated to get into a nursing program, knowing that my GPA isn’t the best due to years of a lack of direction and trying to find myself and know my purpose, I won’t allow it to discourage me because for the first time I feel that the doors for a nursing program will open for me. After all, I know this is what I was called to do in life.
