Week 6 Open City Film Neo Realism and The Second World War Essay

I’m working on a Film report and need an explanation to help me learn.

Write approx 100 words (two paragraphs) for each of the four first films we studied until now:

  • Open City
  • Bicycle Thieves
  • Voyage in Italy
  • La strada

Express clearly the most relevant elements of the film according to you, and connect your impressions with the assigned (or other) readings (you may have found something else that sounded interesting and you are most welcome to use that).

No mark will be assigned.

However, you will receive a brief comment from me, such as:

  • You are totally on the right track, keep it up, expand;
  • Most considerations are correct, but some minor changes are necessary (with brief examples);
  • Fairly good, but lot of room for improvement: you should watch the film again and read the material more carefully;
  • No, sorry, you need to review completely your approach to this course; but don’t worry, there is still plenty of time to catch up.

More than that, you should also be able to evaluate yourself: how difficult was this job for me? Do I have control on the course material (both primary, the films, – and secondary, the critical comments)? How clear is the material to me? and similar considerations… I will be helping, of course.

The writing must be saved in WORD format and delivered either through Moodle or directly to my email ccoen@yorku.ca. Either is fine for me.

This exercise substitutes (partially) the round of tutorials for Week 6, but you must watch the video posted on Moodle as well as the brief recording that follows the lecture. The lecture on La strada (Week 6) is held regularly on Tuesday Oct 27 at 2:30 pm.

The important thing is to write this assignment in a maximum time of 2.5 hours, regardless of when you want to start. Only if you work within a limited span of time this practice will resemble the midterm test we are having in December and be useful as a preparation to that.

However, the due date is at the beginning on Week 8, on Nov. 10 (the review is due at different dates for each tutorial on the same week, starting from Wednesday Nov. 11– see Moodle for details). Obviously, you may finish the job earlier.
